3rd Ramazan (Ramdan)

3rd Ramazan (Ramdan), There are several significant events in Islamic history that occurred on this day:

1. Death of Fatimah bint Asad (R.A) – 4 AH (625 CE)

Fatimah bint Asad (RA) was the mother of Imam Ali (RA) and the wife of Abu Talib. She was one of the early supporters of Islam and played a significant role in raising Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) after his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, passed away. When she died, the Prophet (PBUH) personally prepared her grave and shrouded her in his own cloak as a sign of love and respect.

2. The Conquest of Rhodes by Muslims – 53 AH (673 CE)

During the Umayyad Caliphate, the Muslims, under Caliph Mu’awiya ibn Abi Sufyan (RA), launched military campaigns against the Byzantine Empire. On the 3rd of Ramadan 53 AH, the Muslims successfully captured Rhodes, a strategic island in the Mediterranean.

3. The First Quranic Revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Begins in Ramadan

While the exact date is debated, it is widely believed that during the last ten nights of Ramadan, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelation from Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) in the Cave of Hira. The first revealed verse was:

“Read, ˹O Prophet,˺ in the Name of your Lord Who created—”
(Surah Al-Alaq 96:1)
