Muharram – The Sacred Month of Remembrance 

  • 1st Muharram – Start of the Islamic New Year. The Hijri calendar began with the migration of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah (622 CE). 
  • 10th Muharram – Day of Ashura: Commemoration of Prophet Musa (Moses) عليه السلام and the Israelites’ victory over Pharaoh. The martyrdom of Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه and his companions at Karbala (680 CE). 
  • 16th Muharram – Death anniversary of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, known as the “Fifth Rightly Guided Caliph” (720 CE).

  • 17th Safar – Martyrdom of Imam Ali Zayn al-Abidin رضي الله عنه, the son of Imam Husayn (713 CE).
